With respect to potential historical impacts, Teck has spent over US$85 million to date on a remedial investigation and feasibility study of the Upper Columbia River in Washington under U.S. EPA oversight. The investigation is intended to identify whether historical practices at Trail have caused unacceptable risks to human health or the environment. U.S. EPA has declined to require the additional air monitoring requested by Washington’s Department of Ecology as part of that study.
